Real stars take spin through history of Underbelly

By MARK MORRI
SYDNEY: They both worked the streets of Kings Cross—Roger Rogerson as a cop and Kim Hollingsworth as a stripperand prostitute.
But their memories —as portrayed in Underbelly: The Golden Mile—differ vastly. As they strolled down Williams St in Darlinghurst, they talked of the good old days and the show.
‘‘It’s great entertainment, but a load of crap really. Pure fiction,’’ Rogerson said.
Hollingsworth said Rogerson was the one full of ‘‘crap’’.
‘‘They got it right. The cops were everywhere and into everything. Strip shows, brothels, the lot—and always while on duty,’’ she said.
‘‘I worked as a stripper for the cops in the early ’90s and in the brothels from 1990 to 1992 so I know what it’s really like.’’
Rogerson, who knew and still knows many depicted in the series, said he enjoyed the show but most of it was fiction. To Rogerson, it was where crooks went out of control when the royal commission brought down cops and crooks alike.
To country girl Hollingsworth, it was a brash exciting place where she could earn big money.
